Deputy Finance Minister supports mother with GHS 20,000 for child’s surgery at Korle-Bu
The Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has presented a donation of GHS 20,000 to support a mother whose newborn is battling a critical medical condition at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The beneficiary, Joyce Akoto, a resident of Adjena, is seeking urgent medical care for her baby, who has been diagnosed with a ruptured myelomeningocele—a severe spinal condition requiring immediate surgical intervention.
Presenting the donation, Mr. Ampem Nyarko expressed deep concern over the family’s situation, noting that no parent should have to face such a difficult moment alone.
He described the gesture not only as financial support but also as a symbol of compassion and solidarity, aimed at giving the child a fighting chance at life through timely medical care.
The Deputy Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals and families, particularly in accessing critical healthcare services.
He emphasised the importance of ensuring that life-saving medical treatment remains accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances.
