Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has broken his silence over what he describes as relentless attacks against him following his decision to contest for the position of National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a strongly worded statement, Dr. Abdul-Hamid said he has come under sustained criticism and personal attacks from individuals he claims are also seeking the same position within the party.

According to him, the attacks, which he described as faceless and cowardly, are often circulated through anonymous write-ups and public commentaries aimed at undermining his campaign.

Despite pressure from supporters and sympathisers to respond directly, Dr. Abdul-Hamid said he has deliberately chosen not to engage in public exchanges with his critics.

He argued that the fact he has become the main target among several contenders in the race indicates that many within the party view him as the frontrunner.

“The fact that I am the only person to whom attacks are directed among a crowded field of contestants shows there is a clear recognition that I am the man to beat,” he stated.

Dr. Abdul-Hamid also reflected on his long-standing involvement with the NPP, recounting his role in the party’s political activities dating back to the early 1990s during the era of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC).

He said he risked his life as a young activist opposing the government of former President Jerry John Rawlings and remained committed to the NPP cause despite threats and intimidation.

The former Information Minister further defended his leadership style, rejecting claims by some critics that he failed to favour party loyalists during his time in public office.

According to him, he refused to compromise principles of professionalism and meritocracy by creating partisan advantages within institutions under his leadership.

Dr. Abdul-Hamid suggested that some of the attacks against him stem from dissatisfaction among individuals who expected personal benefits or preferential treatment.

He also stressed that leadership ultimately comes from God, expressing confidence that no amount of opposition or political plotting could derail what he believes is divinely ordained.

The NPP stalwart further highlighted what he described as his extensive contributions to the party during the 2024 general election campaign, claiming his interventions supported party activities across several constituencies and regions.

He said evidence of his contributions, including videos, scripts and recordings, would be presented to delegates during his campaign.

Dr. Abdul-Hamid concluded his statement with biblical and Qur’anic references, urging supporters to remain steadfast amid the ongoing political contest within the party.
