Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku questions economic model of Bawumia camp ahead of primary
As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for its presidential primary in 100 days, leading party member Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku has called for clarity on the economic model being proposed by the camp of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a statement on Facebook, Dr. Opoku noted that while other presidential hopefuls within the NPP have publicly outlined their preferred economic blueprints, it remains unclear what framework Dr. Bawumia’s team intends to champion moving forward.
According to him, several aspirants have already articulated their economic philosophies:
Dr. Bryan Acheampong has indicated his intention to adopt a “Mixed Economic Model.”
Ken Agyepong is leaning towards the “Asian Miracle Model.”
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is focusing on “STEM/B-STEM” as his driving policy concept.
Kwabena Agyepong, on the other hand, is promoting a leadership philosophy anchored on the “3S” — Sacrifice, Service, and Selflessness.
Dr. Opoku observed that amid these diverse proposals, the “Rich Ideas Camp,” widely associated with Dr. Bawumia, has yet to communicate its post-digitalisation economic direction.
“A hundred days to the presidential primary, we are still waiting to know the ‘economic model’ of the Rich Ideas Camp.
Are they still relying solely on the ‘Digitalisation Model’ to address the dollar and other economic challenges?” he questioned.
His remarks have sparked renewed debate within party circles about the need for aspirants to present comprehensive and pragmatic policy proposals that address Ghana’s current economic realities.
Political analysts say the issue of economic vision will likely be a key factor influencing delegates’ choices as the NPP prepares to elect its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
