GUM denies involvement in planned demo over Chief Justice's suspension

The Ghana Union Movement (GUM) has firmly denied any involvement in an upcoming demonstration against the suspension and possible removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo.
Recent reports indicated that a protest, allegedly backed by several political groups, is scheduled for Monday, May 5, 2025.
However, GUM has distanced itself from the claims, insisting it has no part to play in the planned event.
Speaking during an interview, GUM founder and leader, Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, made it clear that he was unaware of any meeting concerning the protest.
He revealed that although GUM’s Communications Director was approached by Nana B, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), the discussions took place without his consent or knowledge.
Rev. Andrews stressed that due process must be followed regarding the petitions against the Chief Justice.
"If investigations find her guilty, then appropriate action should be taken.
But without an investigation, there is no basis for any demonstration," he asserted.
He reaffirmed GUM’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law, urging that any grievances be addressed through proper legal channels rather than street protests.
Furthermore, he instructed all GUM members to stay away from the demonstration, reiterating that the party does not endorse or support the planned protest.
The NPP last issued last week issued a statement that some political parties have agreed to stage a protest over the suspension and possible removal of the Chief Justice.
He spoke on Lawson TV.
