Betty Krosbi Mensah, the former Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, has declared her intention to contest for the position of National Women's Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the party's upcoming national executive elections.

"After careful reflection, extensive consultations, and a nationwide engagement with the grassroots of our great party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), I wish to announce my intention to offer myself for consideration to contest for the position of National Women's Organiser of the party, subject to the official opening of nominations by the party and in accordance with the party’s established processes and guidelines," she said.

Over the past few months, the former MP has toured all 16 regions of Ghana to engage with party stakeholders ahead of the elections.

"Over the past months, I have embarked on a nationwide consultation tour across all sixteen regions of Ghana, engaging directly with our party structures, Members of Parliament, women’s groups, grassroots activists, former women organisers, party elders, cadres, constituency and branch executives, and other stakeholders who remain committed to the vision and values of the NDC," she said.

According to the former Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the consultations gave her a deeper understanding of the concerns and expectations of the party's women's wing.

"These engagements have been deeply inspiring and have provided me with a clearer understanding of the hope, concerns, aspirations, and expectations of our women and the wider party membership. I have listened to their voices, shared in their experiences, and received valuable counsel on the direction they believe our Women’s Wing should take," she said.

The former legislator said her decision to contest was motivated by a desire to serve rather than personal ambition, adding that her experience positions her to contribute effectively.

"The decision to offer myself for this responsibility is not driven by personal ambition but by a renewed commitment to serve. With my experience as a former Member of Parliament, my service as a former Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, and my years of dedication to the NDC, I believe I can contribute meaningfully to strengthening our women’s movement and advancing the ideals of our party," she said.

Betty Krosby Mensah said she believes the women's wing is the backbone of the party and that her vision is to ensure every member's voice is heard.

"I firmly believe that the women wing of the NDC is the backbone of our party. Their sacrifices, resilience, commitment, and loyalty have sustained our movement through difficult moments and great victories. They deserve leadership that listens, organises, recognises their contributions, builds their capacity, and creates opportunities for every woman from the grassroots level to the national platform," she said.

"My vision is to build a united, inclusive, and stronger women’s wing that prioritises effective mobilisation, recognition of the invaluable contributions of our women, capacity building, and empowerment initiatives that promote economic development and improve livelihoods."

The former Coordinator of the National Recreation and Wellness Programme appealed to delegates to support her when nominations are opened and elections are held later this year.

"I believe every woman deserves representation, every voice deserves to be heard, and every contribution deserves recognition. Through collective effort, we can build a Women’s Wing where all members feel valued, supported, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to the growth of our party and the development of our nation," she said.

"I, therefore, humbly seek the trust, confidence, and support of delegates when the party opens nominations as we work together to build a more vibrant Women’s wing and a stronger National Democratic Congress," she emphasised.

The NDC's national executive elections are scheduled for December 2026.
