Kingsley Atta elected NPP Bantama Chairman in rescheduled poll after violent disruption
Kingsley Atta has been elected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Bantama after defeating incumbent Fiifi Mensah in a rescheduled election held on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
The election, which was heavily secured by armed police following violence that disrupted the initial poll, saw Atta secure 714 votes, representing 72.8% of the 995 valid votes cast. Fiifi Mensah obtained 267 votes, representing 27.2%.
The constituency election was originally scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Kumasi Cultural Centre but was cancelled after about seven heavily built men stormed the venue and disrupted the process.
The attackers destroyed ballot papers, plastic tables and chairs, forcing election officials to halt the exercise. One person sustained injuries during the incident, after which police declared the venue a crime scene.
Three suspects were arrested in connection with the violence. They include incumbent Constituency Organiser Shaibu Bamba, Adoato Polling Station Chairman Abubakar Abdullah, and a third individual.
Despite the disruption, the NPP proceeded with the rescheduled election. The Electoral Commission (EC) did not supervise the process, with the party's internal electoral committee conducting the poll after three party members reportedly obtained a court injunction, alleging that their names had been unlawfully removed from the official voters' register.
The election also produced a new constituency executive team.
Joining Chairman Kingsley Atta are Kofi Amoateng as First Vice Chairman, Frank C. Boateng as Second Vice Chairman, Douglas Achempong as Secretary, Kwadwo Adu as Assistant Secretary, and Eric Mensah as Organiser.
The remaining executive positions were filled by Nana Boakye as Youth Organiser, Vivian Arthur as Treasurer, Josephine Ama Pomaa as Women's Organiser, and Kingsley Addai as Communication Officer.
Following his victory, Mr Atta pledged to unite the party by bridging internal divisions and bringing together both factions and their supporters to strengthen the NPP's mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections.
