Lands Ministry pledges support for Atronso community in fight against illegal mining
The spokesperson for the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Mahmud Kabore, has affirmed the government’s unwavering support for the people of Atronso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region in their fight against illegal mining.
According to him, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, together with President John Dramani Mahama and the entire nation, stands firmly with the people of Atronso to ensure victory in the battle against galamsey.
Speaking on the Citizen Show on Accra FM with Nana Kwabena Bobie Ansah on November 5, 2025, Mr. Kabore emphasised that the fight against illegal mining is not one to be won through the use of weapons, but through a transformation of mindsets and collective responsibility.
He further commended communities across the country that have joined forces with the government to combat illegal mining, describing their efforts as patriotic and commendable.
Mr. Kabore also encouraged individuals interested in mining to take advantage of President Mahama’s Responsible Cooperative Mining Initiative to ensure safe, environmentally sound, and sustainable mining practices.
He reiterated that through unity and shared commitment, the country will overcome the menace of illegal mining.
