Mahama calls for private sector–led economic partnership to deepen Ghana–Zambia relations
President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a renewed vision for Ghana–Zambia relations, urging both countries to move away from ceremonial diplomacy and toward a results-driven economic partnership led by the private sector.
Addressing participants at the Zambian–Ghana Business Dialogue in Lusaka, President Mahama said the two nations had agreed to prioritise practical economic cooperation over routine bilateral engagements.
He noted that the inclusion of the business forum was intentional, providing a platform for private sector players to network, engage in roundtable discussions, and serve as the foundation of the evolving partnership.
In the energy sector, the President praised Zambia’s progress in reforms, particularly its open-access framework and net metering system.
He said Ghana stands to learn from Zambia’s experience and revealed plans to dispatch officials from Ghana’s Energy Ministry to study the Zambian model with the aim of adapting relevant best practices.
On agriculture, President Mahama acknowledged Zambia’s strong comparative advantage, especially in seed production.
He expressed appreciation to President Hakainde Hichilema for the personal gift of maize seeds, describing it as a meaningful symbol of deepening cooperation and mutual trust between the two countries.
