N/R: Yendi NPP Chairman suspends 184 members for breaching party constitution
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Yendi Constituency Chairman, Nashiru Abdul Karim, has announced the suspension of 184 members for breaching the party’s constitution, following a series of complaints and investigations into misconduct during the recent elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 26 December 2024, Chairman Karim explained that the suspensions were in accordance with Article 3 Clause (9)(1), Clause (7)(1), and Clause (8)(1) of the 2017 amended NPP constitution.
The decision follows numerous petitions submitted by party members, alleging violations related to the presidential and parliamentary elections. These claims were thoroughly investigated by the Constituency Executive Committee and the party’s Disciplinary Committee.
A crucial meeting of the expanded Constituency Executive Committee, held on 23rd December 2024, brought together members of the Council of Elders, the Council of Patrons, and the Disciplinary Committee. The meeting concluded with a unanimous decision to suspend the 184 members, emphasising the importance of upholding the party’s constitutional integrity.
The Yendi Constituency Chairman reaffirmed the NPP's commitment to enforcing its constitution and maintaining discipline.
“I write to humbly notify the National and Regional leadership of the party, as well as the general public, that the following members of the party have forfeited their membership or have been summarily suspended with effect from 26th December 2024,” he stated.
The statement stressed that the suspension was a necessary measure to ensure accountability and protect the party’s principles, sending a strong message about the importance of adhering to the party’s rules and regulations.
