NDC Communicator allegedly arrested after WhatsApp dispute in Kasoa
A member of the Central Regional Communications Team of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), identified as King Eric, has allegedly been arrested by the Central East Regional Police following a dispute linked to a WhatsApp platform involving the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naana Koryoo Okunor, her husband, Yussif, and another party member.
According to information gathered, the incident originated from an argument on a WhatsApp platform used by party members.
Sources indicate that tensions escalated after exchanges between King Eric, the MP’s husband, and another individual on the platform.
The arrest reportedly occurred around 6:00 p.m., when about six armed police officers allegedly visited King Eric’s residence to effect the arrest.
Witnesses described the operation as forceful.
However, the police have not officially commented on the circumstances surrounding the arrest or disclosed the identity of the complainant.
Although no formal statement has been issued by the police, party sources allege that the Vice Chairman of the NDC in Awutu Senya East (Kasoa), Alhaji Osman, and the MP’s husband, Yussif, may be connected to the matter.
These claims have not been independently confirmed.
King Eric has since been granted bail, while police investigations are said to be ongoing.
Addressing the issue at a press conference, the NDC Organizer for the Awutu Senya East Constituency, Mr. Daniel Takyi, expressed concern over the development and called for calm among party members.
He appealed for peace to prevail and urged all parties involved to allow due process to take its course.
In a related comment, the Deputy Communications Officer of the party in Kasoa, Mr. Cobby Wilson, described the incident as an act of intimidation, stating that party communicators would not be silenced and would speak out against conduct that undermines the party or damages the reputation of its constituency leadership.
Meanwhile, the police have indicated that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
