Otumfuo urges Mahama’s appointees to uphold integrity and serve Ghana diligently

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on appointees of President John Dramani Mahama to demonstrate unwavering integrity, loyalty, and a strong commitment to national development as they assume their various roles.
Speaking during a courtesy call on President Mahama at the Jubilee House, Otumfuo emphasised the importance of truthfulness and service to the nation, cautioning against complacency and urging the President’s team to work diligently toward meaningful progress for all Ghanaians.
“This is a time for dedication, not comfort,” Otumfuo said. “You must serve with honesty and keep Ghana’s welfare at the heart of your duties.”
The meeting underscored the close and longstanding relationship between the Asantehene and President Mahama, with discussions focused on fostering national unity, driving development, and promoting the well-being of the Ashanti Region.
In a heartfelt response, President Mahama expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for his instrumental role in his political journey.
Recalling a pivotal moment, Mahama revealed that it was Otumfuo’s counsel that convinced him to accept the vice-presidential role under the late President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills.
“At a time when I had resolved to step away from politics, I received word that Otumfuo wanted to see me in Manhyia,” Mahama recounted.
“His wisdom and encouragement persuaded me to return to serve my country.”
He described the Asantehene as a “national icon of peace and visionary leadership,” commending his continued efforts in mediating chieftaincy disputes and promoting harmony across the country.
Mahama Pledges Major Infrastructure Projects for Ashanti Region
President Mahama also used the occasion to outline key infrastructure initiatives aimed at boosting development in the Ashanti Region, particularly in Kumasi.
The priority projects include:
Completion of the Maternity and Children’s Block at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) – a crucial facility to improve maternal and child healthcare services.
Finishing the Accra–Kumasi Highway to ease traffic on one of Ghana’s most critical transport corridors.
Expansion of the Kumasi International Airport – to enhance regional connectivity and support trade.
Implementation of the Kumasi City Traffic Programme – aimed at addressing urban congestion and improving mobility.
Construction of Two Military Hospitals – to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and support national security.
President Mahama reaffirmed his government’s commitment to inclusive development and pledged to prioritise projects that have lasting impact on the lives of citizens in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
