Yilo and Manya Krobo NDC executives roats Akwatia MP over claims on IGP’s tenure extension
The Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Yilo and Manya Krobo have strongly condemned comments made by the Akwatia Member of Parliament, Mr Bernard Bediako Baidoo, regarding the extension of the tenure of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
In a statement issued on Friday, the executives described the MP’s remarks as “baseless and misleading,” insisting that the NDC has not opposed the extension of the IGP’s term of office.
They expressed shock that Mr. Baidoo would make such claims, especially considering the IGP’s supervision of what they described as one of the “most peaceful and calm by-elections” in recent times—an election in which the MP himself emerged victorious.
The statement highlighted several achievements of IGP Yohuno, praising his leadership and commitment to strengthening law enforcement across the country.
These, they noted, include empowering subordinates to respond effectively to crime, promoting transparency through the active engagement of regional police PROs, enhancing public trust by ensuring swift action against offenders seen in viral videos, and maintaining robust crime-fighting operations despite logistical constraints.
The NDC executives questioned the motive behind Mr. Baidoo’s remarks, suggesting the comments sought to undermine the leadership of the party.
They further criticised the MP for failing to acknowledge the IGP’s contribution to his electoral success.
They called on Mr Baidoo to retract his statement and issue an apology, reaffirming their strong support for the IGP’s continued leadership.
The statement was signed by convener Yakubu Ibrahim on behalf of the NDC executives of Yilo and Manya Krobo.
