Black Starlets scouting exercise begins in Northern Region today
The Black Starlets' nationwide talent identification programme will head to the Northern Region for a two-day scouting exercise on June 22 and 23, 2026, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
Led by head coach Kassim Ocansey Mingle and his technical staff, the event is part of ongoing efforts to assemble Ghana's next U-17 national team.
The sessions will begin at 9 AM on both days. Participating players will compete in a series of matches, allowing the technical team to evaluate their technical skills, tactical awareness, physical attributes, and overall potential for the next stage of the selection process.
The scouting initiative specifically targets young footballers born in 2010 and 2011 - with exceptions made for "exceptional players born in 2012" - who meet the age requirements for the upcoming Black Starlets cycle. Players from across the Northern Region are encouraged to attend and showcase their abilities to the national selectors.
Standout performers from the two-day event will be shortlisted for a subsequent screening phase involving further assessment at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
This Northern Regional exercise follows previous talent searches in the Upper West and Upper East regions, reflecting the Ghana Football Association's strategy to provide national team pathways to players across the country.
With the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship approaching, coach Mingle and his staff aim to build a competitive squad capable of restoring Ghana's position in continental youth football and securing qualification for future African and global tournaments.
