CAA President pays courtesy call on Ghana Olympic Committee ahead of 2026 African Athletics Championships
The President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Hamad Kalka Malboun, on January 7, 2026, paid a courtesy call on the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) as preparations intensify for the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships scheduled for May in Accra.
Mr. Malboun, who was accompanied by other CAA officials, expressed strong confidence in Ghana’s ability to host a successful and well-organised championship.
Ghana is set to host the 24th edition of the African Senior Athletics Championships from May 12 to 17, 2026.
He commended Ghana for the successful hosting of the 13th African Games, noting that the facilities used for that event remain in excellent condition and will be well-suited for the upcoming continental athletics competition.
Welcoming the delegation, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Lawyer Richard Akpokavie, reaffirmed his commitment to athlete welfare, particularly in the areas of facilities and remuneration.
He expressed optimism that the Ghana Athletics Association would once again deliver a world-class event.
“We have to put all hands on deck to organise a memorable and successful world-class event,” Mr. Akpokavie said.
President of the Ghana Athletics Association and Deputy Secretary General of the GOC, Mr. Bawa Fuseini, also assured the CAA of Ghana’s readiness to deliver a high-quality championship.
He expressed hope that participating countries would field their best athletes to enhance the competitiveness of the event.
Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Lawyer Mohammed Muniru, further assured the CAA of a successful competition, citing the strong interest and passion for track and field in Ghana.
The visit concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ghana and the Confederation of African Athletics at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, formally sealing commitments toward the successful hosting of the championship.
