GHS9.5m prize pool: GFA President Simeon-Okraku says GPL 2025/26 will be 'historic', urges 'keen but healthy competition'

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has touted the 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League (GPL) will be "unique and historic".
The GPL 2025/2026 began today, Friday, September 12, and will be "marked by the injection of unprecedented direct financial support to all GPL clubs and the availability of a record prize money pool of GHS9.5 million," Simeon-Okraku explained.
In his statement, he continued by emphasising the need for "keen but healthy competition," the message necessitated by violence that has marred the games last year, ending in the stabbing to death of a Kotoko super fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, better known as Pooley.
