Ghana Embassy in US pledges support for Black Stars ahead of World Cup
Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Victor Emmanuel Smith, has assured of the Embassy’s full support to ensure Ghana’s participation in the upcoming World Cup tournament is successful and memorable.
The Ambassador said the Mission would work closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to address coordination and logistical needs arising from the tournament’s multi-city format, while also advancing Ghana’s broader interests linked to the global event.
Mr. Smith gave the assurance when the President of the GFA, Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, paid a courtesy call on him in the United States to discuss Ghana’s group placement and preparations ahead of the World Cup.
Expressing optimism about Ghana’s prospects, Ambassador Smith noted that the national team has experienced players capable of making the country proud on the world stage.
For his part, Mr. Simeon-Okraku disclosed that Ghana has been drawn in Pot 4, Group L, alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
He explained that the group arrangement would require the team to play matches across several cities, including Boston, Philadelphia and Toronto, a situation he said could pose logistical challenges for both the players and the supporting delegation.
The GFA President said the Association was counting on strong collaboration with the Embassy before and during the tournament to support team operations and promote Ghana’s interests globally, describing the World Cup as a major international platform with widespread attention.
He further announced plans by the GFA to launch new national team jerseys in Washington, D.C., and revealed that the Association would also use the tournament to establish talent identification camps aimed at discovering and developing young players for the future.
At the end of the meeting, both Ambassador Smith and Mr. Simeon-Okraku reaffirmed their commitment to work closely together to ensure the successful implementation of the outlined plans and to support Ghana toward a strong and impactful World Cup campaign
