Heartbreak for GAFOSC as UGCFL Season 2 title slips away
Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club gave their all but lost the title by a single goal.
Wilmar Africa won the University of Ghana Corporate Football League Season 2 with a 1-0 victory in a tense, hard-fought final.
The Armed Forces Officers team, one of the competition's most experienced sides, pushed the debutant champions to their limits. For long stretches, they looked capable of winning. However, a moment of brilliance from Wilmar's number 10, Rolland Tetteh, made all the difference.
The first half belonged to the Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club. They controlled possession, moved the ball confidently, and set the game's tempo. But they struggled to find the finishing touch to convert that control into goals, a frustration that defined the evening.
Wilmar stayed disciplined and compact. They absorbed the pressure and waited for their chance. It was a tactical battle, and by the end of the first half, neither side had managed to score.
The second half changed. Wilmar came out with greater determination and began forcing the Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club deeper into their own half. The Armed Forces team worked hard to maintain their structure, but the pressure grew. Midway through the half, Rolland Tetteh scored to give Wilmar the lead.
From that moment on, the Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club showed the character that had taken them to the final. They pushed hard for an equalizer, sending players forward and creating chances in the final minutes. However, Wilmar's defence held strong, deflecting attack after attack to protect their narrow lead.
When the final whistle blew, it was a painful moment for a team that had fought bravely throughout the campaign. Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club finished as a deserving runner-up, a result that reflects how far they pushed one of the tournament's best teams until the very end.
