Former Black Queens head coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo remains confident Ghana can secure a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, despite missing out on automatic qualification.

Ghana’s direct route ended following a 2–1 loss to Malawi in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarter-finals in Rabat. 

The Black Queens must now navigate the WAFCON play-in route, beginning with a crucial match against Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday, August 13.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Tagoe-Quarcoo backed the team while acknowledging the demanding schedule ahead.

"I believe that Ghana will qualify for the Women’s World Cup, and I am confident about that, but the only challenging aspect is that the playoff games are a lot, and that could affect the team," she said.

Road to Brazil 2027

A victory over Côte d’Ivoire will send Ghana to the multi-stage FIFA Women’s World Cup Play-Off Tournament:

- First Phase (Nov–Dec 2026): Six teams (including two from Africa) compete at a centralized venue, with the top two advancing.

- Final Phase (Feb 2027): The top two teams join four entrants from Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol (CONMEBOL), and Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), split into three knockout brackets.

- Qualification: The winner of each knockout bracket earns a spot at the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.

Ghana's immediate focus remains defeating Côte d'Ivoire to keep their qualification hopes alive.
