Deputy Tourism Minister calls for collaboration to transform Ghana’s film industry

The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mr. Yussif Isaaka Jajah, has underscored the importance of collaboration in driving the growth of Ghana’s film industry.
Speaking at the National Film Authority Dialogue, Mr. Jajah said the film sub-sector holds immense potential to advance Ghana’s national development agenda. According to him, film can serve as a catalyst for economic transformation, tourism promotion, foreign investment attraction, and national identity building, while also contributing significantly to GDP growth.
He stressed that the government remains committed to aligning film development with the country’s wider economic and cultural aspirations, noting that the dialogue reflects this dedication.
Calling on stakeholders to engage with boldness and a shared sense of purpose, the Deputy Minister urged policymakers to pass legislation that protects intellectual property, incentivises local content creation, and expands equitable access to funding and infrastructure.
He further invited investors and development partners to collaborate with the government in building a resilient and profitable film ecosystem, pointing to untapped opportunities in production studios, distribution platforms, training institutions, and digital innovations.
Mr. Jajah expressed optimism about a future where Ghanaian films gain international recognition, shaping global narratives while showcasing the nation’s unique stories. He described the film sub-sector as a potential model of innovation, inclusion, and impact.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting filmmakers and creatives, he said their vision, artistry, and storytelling remain vital to the industry’s growth.
He encouraged practitioners to continue producing high-quality content that celebrates Ghana’s cultural heritage and identity.
