Folklore Board launches Kids’ series “By the Fire Side”: A blend of storytelling, music and dance

The National Folklore Board has officially launched By the Fire Side, an educational and entertainment series for children that merges traditional Ghanaian storytelling with music and dance.
Bernice Ann Deh-Kumah, Executive Director of the Folklore Board, stated that the initiative is a strategic step towards implementing Ghana’s cultural policy and preserving the nation's rich intangible cultural heritage.
The National Folklore Board, mandated by the Copyright Act, 2005 (Act 690), is responsible for administering, registering, promoting, and protecting Ghana’s expressions of folklore.
The Board also oversees the implementation of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
She further noted that as part of efforts to promote the Black Star Experience among Ghanaians, people of African descent, and the Diaspora community, the launch of the storytelling series dubbed By the Fire Side, under the theme "Memories of Tales", will explore regional storytelling traditions.
The series is scheduled to take place on the second Friday of every month.
Ms. Deh-Kumah emphasised the Board's intention to revive interest in traditional storytelling among both Ghanaians and tourists.
To broaden its audience reach, she said the Board will collaborate with the Ghana Education Service(GES) at the regional level, District Chief Executives, and tour operating companies to engage diasporans and tourists in the storytelling activities.
Speaking to Accra 100.5 FM's news, Mr Ebenezer Ahiator, the Executive Director of the Bureau of Ghana Languages, underscored the cultural significance of storytelling and urged the public to embrace the initiative wholeheartedly.
