The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced a significant drop in waste collection volumes from the Central Business District (CBD) of Accra following its ongoing decongestion exercise.

According to Engineer Solomon Noi, Head of Waste Management at the AMA, the initiative has led to a reduction of approximately 14.4 tonnes of waste daily in the CBD.

Before the decongestion campaign, the Assembly deployed four tipper trucks, making a minimum of six trips daily to clear waste from the area.

However, after the intervention, the number of trips has decreased to an average of four trips per day.

Engineer Noi made the disclosure on Monday, June 30, 2025, during the continuation of the First Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Assembly of the AMA.

“After the exercise, we are recording an average of four trips a day.

This represents a reduction of two loads of tipper trucks, which is estimated at 14.4 tonnes of waste,” he explained.
