Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to reuniting all displaced Ghanaians with their families as stability returns to conflict-affected communities.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra, Mr. Ablakwa said President John Dramani Mahama has appealed to displaced citizens to return home, assuring them that security has been strengthened and normalcy restored in the affected areas.

The Minister’s remarks follow his recent visit to Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso, where many Ghanaians had fled after a communal clash in Gbinyiri, Savannah Region, left several people dead.

“So far, more than 5,000 Ghanaians have returned home.

Our embassies in Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso have been directed to work closely with local authorities to provide urgent consular assistance to those affected,” he announced.

Mr. Ablakwa further disclosed that Ghana’s embassy in Iran will fully reopen on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, after a three-month closure prompted by security concerns.

He assured that all necessary measures have been taken to guarantee the safety of diplomatic staff.
