Interior Minister inaugurates Refugee Board

The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji. Mohammed Mubaric Muntaka has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of refugees in Ghana, as he inaugurated the newly constituted Ghana Refugee Board (GRB).
Speaking at the event, the Minister highlighted the Board’s critical role in promoting the welfare of the over 20,000 registered refugees currently residing in Ghana.
These refugees hail from approximately 40 countries, with the majority originating from neighbouring Burkina Faso.
Mr. Muntaka urged the Board members to work with dedication and unity of purpose to ensure that all refugees within Ghana’s borders receive the protection, care, and support they need.
He called on the team to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, professionalism, and patriotism in executing their mandate.
“This Board is a vital mechanism in strengthening our management of refugee affairs and in preserving Ghana’s longstanding tradition of humanitarianism.
The government, through the Ministry of the Interior, will provide the necessary support to enable the Board to discharge its responsibilities effectively,” the Minister assured.
Chairman of the Board, Mr Joseph Azumah, expressed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the trust reposed in them.
He pledged the Board’s commitment to working diligently and collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders to improve the lives of refugees across the country.
