President Mahama congratulates newly appointed high commissioners, ambassadors

New envoys sworn-in

President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated Ghana’s newly appointed high commissioners and ambassadors, describing their appointments as a mark of confidence and recognition of their years of dedicated service in both the public and private sectors.

Speaking at a swearing-in ceremony in Accra, the president noted the envoys were assuming office at a pivotal moment in Ghana’s diplomatic practice, where measurable results and accountability would drive foreign service operations.

He highlighted the introduction of key performance indicators as a groundbreaking innovation, explaining that for the first time in Ghana’s diplomatic history, these indicators would serve as a structured framework to guide the work of missions abroad.

President Mahama outlined the Reset Agenda as his administration’s blueprint to restore hope, rebuild trust, and drive inclusive prosperity.

While much of this work will be carried out domestically, he charged the envoys to extend the agenda globally by cultivating partnerships, unlocking opportunities, and strengthening Ghana’s role in international affairs.

President Mahama also reminded the envoys that their responsibilities went beyond representation. He urged them to provide strong leadership, ensure administrative fairness, and uphold ethical stewardship of public resources.

He cautioned against the misuse of funds, pointing to the unsustainable practice of spending more than US$15 million every year on rented diplomatic properties abroad.

To address this, he announced the STRIDE initiative, a new policy that would see Ghana transition from renting to having its own diplomatic buildings overseas.
