President John Dramani Mahama breaks ground for Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project in the Volta Region

President John Dramani Mahama has officially broken ground for Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project in the Volta Region.

The long-anticipated initiative brings renewed hope to the people of Ketu South, who have endured decades of relentless coastal erosion.

With the new phase, the government has taken a bold step to protect coastal communities, preserve livelihoods, and reclaim land that has been slowly overtaken by the sea.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, President Mahama affirmed the nation’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable communities along Ghana’s coastline.

He acknowledged that tidal wave destruction was not limited to Ketu South but had also left a trail of devastation in other coastal towns of the country.

In a related development, the president also announced that Ghana had secured a grant from the Chinese government to construct a new, modern market in Aflao.

This new facility, he said, will support economic recovery and empower small traders in the region, particularly those whose livelihoods had been affected by flooding and displacement.

The Aflao market forms part of broader plans to boost local commerce and infrastructure in border communities within the Volta Region.
