Vice President Opoku-Agyemang reaffirms Ghana–China ties at 76th anniversary celebration

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has extended warm congratulations to the People’s Republic of China on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, as the Asian nation marked the 76th anniversary of its founding and the 65th anniversary of Ghana–China diplomatic relations.
Speaking at the anniversary celebration, the Vice President reflected on the enduring values upon which Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Chairman Mao Zedong built the bilateral relationship, describing it as one anchored in partnership and mutual respect.
She highlighted the steady growth in trade between the two countries and stressed Ghana’s determination to ensure that this cooperation translates into local development opportunities, particularly for the youth.
As Ghana rolls out its 24-Hour Economy Programme, she noted, the focus will remain on creating jobs in areas such as energy, renewable power, and trade.
“Our goal is to build a win–win partnership that benefits all, especially the most vulnerable,” she said, commending ongoing collaboration in medical exchanges and educational partnerships.
Looking ahead, the Vice President expressed optimism that more Ghanaian businesses would expand into China, while Chinese enterprises continue to support Ghana’s development agenda.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to joint projects such as the Aflao Market redevelopment, which aims to improve the working conditions of market women by providing safe and dignified spaces for trade.
“May our friendship with China grow from strength to strength,” she concluded.
