The Dansoman Circuit Court has sentenced Yaw Asare, a 48-year-old head porter, to two years’ imprisonment for unlawfully damaging road infrastructure at the newly constructed Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange in Accra.

Asare was convicted of causing unlawful damage under Section 172 of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29) after he was arrested on June 9, 2025, for tampering with parapet beams and accessories on the interchange.

He will serve his sentence at the Nsawam Prison.

In a statement, the Ministry of Roads and Highways expressed deep concern over the increasing destruction of public road infrastructure through vandalism and vehicular crashes, particularly those affecting traffic lights.

The Ministry reminded the public that damaging state infrastructure is a criminal offence and warned that offenders will face the full rigours of the law.

It further assured that it is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to ensure that individuals who engage in such acts are swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.
