Anti-galamsey task force impounds excavator in Manso-Adubia operation

The Anti-Galamsey Task Force stationed at Manso-Adubia in the Ashanti Region has reinforced its determination to clamp down on illegal mining activities in the area, following a special operation conducted earlier this week.
The task force, made up of 45 personnel deployed in six service vehicles, carried out the mission under the leadership of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bawah Abdul Jalil.
According to officials, Tuesday was deliberately chosen for the operation, as intelligence suggested that illegal miners often treat the day as a rest period.
This strategy was meant to catch perpetrators off guard across identified hotspots.
The team advanced to Adobewura, a community near Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District, which has long been flagged as an illegal mining hub.
However, intelligence reports indicated that the miners had been tipped off ahead of the raid and had abandoned the site before the team’s arrival.
Despite this, the task force discovered an excavator actively working at the site.
The machine was promptly impounded, loaded onto a low-bed carrier, and transported to the task force base at Manso-Adubia for safekeeping and further investigation.
Authorities say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal mining operations in the Ashanti Region and protect the country’s natural resources.
