GA/R: Teachers threaten to boycott classes over hazardous refuse container

Teachers in the Sege school cluster in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra Region are threatening to boycott classes unless a hazardous refuse container is relocated.
The container, situated within the compounds of Sege Community Junior High School (JHS) No. 1 & 2 and Sege Presby Primary School, has become a dumping ground for various types of waste—including dead animals—resulting in a pervasive stench and smoke from burning refuse.
This unsanitary condition has forced both teachers and students to vacate classrooms on several occasions.
During a recent visit to the schools, Accra 100.5 FM's reporter Rebecca Lartey observed that trash was scattered around the area where the container is located, despite it not being filled to capacity.
Mr. Emmanuel Sabbah, Headmaster of Sege Presby Primary School No. 2, described the situation as a severe public health hazard, particularly amid the recent cholera outbreaks in some regions of Ghana.
He noted that multiple appeals have been made to the authorities to relocate the container, but no action has been taken.
Frustrated by the ongoing inaction, the teachers have warned that they will abandon teaching activities if the refuse container is not immediately moved from the school premises.
