MoE commenced investigations into unwholesome rice saga in SHS
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has responded swiftly to allegations made by Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa regarding the distribution of expired food supplies to some Senior High Schools(SHS) across Ghana.
According to a statement from the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, an immediate investigation has been launched to determine the validity of these claims.
Expressing appreciation for Mr Ablakwa’s feedback, the Ministry acknowledged that his concerns are essential to their mission of maintaining high standards in Ghana’s educational institutions.
"We take these allegations seriously and, as a matter of urgency, have commenced a full investigation," Kwarteng stated.
The Ministry has enlisted the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) and the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX)—the key organizations responsible for food supply and distribution to Senior High Schools—to assist in the investigation.
Both agencies are expected to contribute insights and data to ensure a comprehensive examination of the issue.
The Ministry assured students, parents, guardians, and the general public of its dedication to safeguarding the health and safety of all students.
It promised a transparent approach, with timely updates to be provided as the investigation unfolds.
Mr Kwarteng reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment, stating, "We will pursue this matter to the end and ensure that the public is informed of the outcomes."
