The President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Daniel Korley Botchway, has revealed that more than 170,000 students have so far benefited from the No Fee Stress Policy introduced by the Mahama-led administration.

Speaking on The Citizen Show with Nana Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM, Mr. Botchway said the policy has eased the financial burden on many parents and students, significantly improving access to education while fostering academic excellence.

He explained that the initiative covers students in public tertiary institutions, including universities, colleges of education, and nursing training institutions.

However, he admitted that some students have yet to receive their disbursements due to delays in the validation process.

Mr. Botchway further noted that the policy has a second phase that allows students to access loans, which are repayable two years after completing their studies.

He commended the Ministry of Education and sector minister, Haruna Iddrisu, for their commitment and support in ensuring the policy’s success.

Meanwhile, the President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu, praised Minister Haruna Iddrisu for his collaborative approach to educational reforms.

He disclosed that ongoing engagements with stakeholders would soon see about 99 Senior High Schools taken off the double-track system.

Additionally, the Public Relations Officer of the National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA), Irene Sam, lauded the minister for reintegrating PTAs into the school system.

According to her, this move has strengthened school-community relations while reinforcing policy direction within the sector.
