Teacher’s Forum blames NPP for education system challenges, vows reforms if NDC is elected
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Teacher's Forum has criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what it describes as a collapse of Ghana’s education system.
At a regional conference held in Kumasi, the forum’s leaders expressed frustration over issues they attribute to the NPP's handling of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, teacher resource shortages, and inadequate school infrastructure.
During the event, Comrade Abu Sufyan, the National President of the forum, stated that the NPP administration has left Ghana’s educational framework in “disarray,” with public secondary schools bearing the brunt of the policy’s shortcomings.
According to Mr Sufyan, overcrowded classrooms and dormitories in second-cycle institutions have worsened the learning environment, compromising the quality of education and negatively impacting student welfare.
The forum’s National Deputy Director-in-Charge of Research, Mr. Peter Aboagye, outlined several policy interventions the NDC intends to implement if it returns to power.
He stressed that the party aims to revitalize the educational system by addressing infrastructure needs, ensuring adequate resources for teachers, and revising the Free SHS programme to improve outcomes for both students and educators.
The NDC Teacher’s Forum has positioned these reforms as essential to restoring quality education and alleviating the current pressures on Ghana's schooling system.
