The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has called on candidates of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) whose results have been withheld due to suspected malpractices to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigations.

In a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, WAEC explained that the Ghana Examinations Committee approved the decision to withhold the results during its 37th meeting.

The council has since been conducting investigations, which are now in their final stages.

WAEC further disclosed that the scrutiny of the affected scripts has been completed, and the concerned candidates have been invited to meet with the selected officials for a fair hearing.

“These meetings, which require candidates to be accompanied by their parents or guardians, are aimed at affording them a fair hearing before final decisions are made on their cases,” the statement read.

The council assured the public that the process is being carried out transparently and fairly, dismissing allegations from some parents that candidates are being coerced or pressured into making statements.

WAEC urged all affected candidates and their guardians to cooperate fully to facilitate a swift resolution of the matter.
