WASSCE results delayed due to ending Funds from Education Ministry – WAEC
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has attributed the delay in releasing the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results to funding issues stemming from the Ministry of Education.
In a statement issued Monday, 9 December, WAEC revealed that although the marking of essay and practical components was completed on 29 November, the scanning of objective test cards has been disrupted due to the breakdown of scanners and insufficient funds for repairs.
“The Council is awaiting the release of additional funds out of the outstanding balance of GHS118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education to enable the scanning process and other post-examination processes to continue smoothly,” the statement read.
The financial shortfall has also delayed payments to examination officials and suppliers.
WAEC appealed for their patience, assuring them that “payment for their services will be made as soon as the needed funds are released from the Ministry of Education.”
Students, parents, and other stakeholders were urged to disregard unofficial dates circulating on social media.
WAEC emphasised that results would only be released after resolving all post-examination challenges.
