Two people have been confirmed dead and four others injured, including a pregnant woman, following a violent gang clash during a burial ceremony at Wiamoase in the Afigya Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, shortly after the burial of an alleged gang member.

The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Wiamoase SDA Hospital.

Nana Boakye Yiadom II, Chief of Wiamoase, confirmed the incident in an interview with Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah, revealing that he had received intelligence about a possible disturbance prior to the ceremony and had promptly informed the police.

According to Nana Yiadom, he personally engaged the youth—who had traveled from different communities to attend the burial, and urged them to remain calm.

He later led the group to the cemetery for the burial rites.

However, shortly after he left the scene, violence erupted.

The chief explained that four of the gunshot victims were innocent residents who were attending a separate funeral in a nearby house.

The shooting reportedly occurred when some gang members, who were being chased by their rivals, ran into the house seeking refuge.

Their pursuers opened fire, inadvertently injuring the bystanders.

Nana Yiadom clarified that all the deceased individuals were from Aboaso and had come to Wiamoase solely to attend the burial.

He emphasized that they were not members of the Wiamoase community.

While calm has been restored in the area, the chief expressed concern over reports that some gang members might attempt to return and cause further chaos.

He has, therefore, appealed to the police to intensify security patrols and maintain a visible presence to prevent future disturbances.

The incident has left residents shaken, with calls growing for stronger security and conflict resolution measures to curb gang-related violence in the region.
