Another police brutal assault on journalist at Ablekuma North

A disturbing incident occurred on Friday, July 11, 2025, during the re-run of parliamentary polls in Ablekuma North, when a uniformed police officer was captured on video brutally assaulting a journalist from Accra-based Kasapa FM, Mr. Kwabena Agyekum Banahene.
The re-run, held in 19 polling stations to determine the winner of the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election, was marred by the shocking act of violence, which has since sparked widespread condemnation on social media.
It remains unclear what triggered the assault, but a viral video circulating online shows the police officer—believed to be of inspector rank—repeatedly slapping the journalist in the midst of a heated exchange.
Mr. Banahene was reportedly covering the election in his professional capacity when the incident occurred.
The Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission are yet to officially comment on the matter, while the media community and rights groups are calling for swift investigations and accountability.
