The Commanding Officer of the 154 Armoured Regiment and team leader of Ghana’s UNISFA GHANBATT 3 mission to Sudan, Lt. Col. Baffour Antwi Sarpong, has called on Ghanaians to protect the peace the country currently enjoys, stressing that it is a vital foundation for national development.

Speaking during a media interview with CTV and Accra FM at the End of Tour Thanksgiving Religious Parade held at the Liberation Barracks in Sunyani, Lt. Col. Sarpong recounted the harsh realities witnessed during their recent peacekeeping assignment in Sudan.

“What we saw on the field shows clearly that Ghana is a very peaceful country, and we must do everything possible to maintain that peace,” he said.

“Peace is the only commodity that can truly drive national development.

When you see how people are suffering in other countries due to conflict, it becomes clear how lucky we are and how important it is to remain united and build our nation.”

He noted that although their mission was to assist communities in need, the conditions on the ground were extremely difficult. Nevertheless, he affirmed the military’s readiness to serve under any circumstance.

“As soldiers, we are trained to face challenges and serve wherever we are needed. It wasn’t easy, but we gave our best,” he added.

Lt. Col. Sarpong also encouraged other military personnel who will be deployed on future missions to uphold the professionalism and dedication that have earned Ghana a strong reputation in international peacekeeping efforts.

Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, Commanding Officer of the 15 Armoured Brigade, praised the officers and men of GHANBATT 3 for their dedication and sacrifice.

He urged them to continue serving the Ghana Armed Forces with integrity and commitment, both at home and abroad.
