Gov't begins evacuation of students from Bawku and Nalerigu amid aurfew and rising tensions

The Government of Ghana has commenced the emergency evacuation of students from Bawku, Nalerigu, and nearby areas following the imposition of a dusk-to-dawn curfew in response to renewed violence in the region.
The curfew, which took effect on Sunday, July 27, restricts movement between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., and is part of heightened security measures aimed at curbing the escalating unrest.
Minister for Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed that the evacuations are being undertaken to safeguard students, who are increasingly vulnerable amid the ongoing conflict.
“The safety of our children is paramount.
This operation is to ensure no student becomes a casualty of the current tensions,” he stated.
The evacuation process is being coordinated through a joint effort involving school administrators, local government officials, security agencies, and the Ghana Armed Forces.
Parents and guardians are being urged to remain calm and cooperate fully with the authorities as the operation unfolds.
The government says it remains committed to protecting lives and restoring peace and normalcy to affected communities.
