Minister reaffirms commitment to local governance reforms

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim has officially inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Boards of the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA) and the Council of the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS).
At a swearing-in ceremony held in Accra, Mr. Ibrahim reiterated the government’s strong commitment to the Resetting Ghana Agenda, emphasising that one of its central pillars is the capacity-building of local government actors.
These include Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Assembly Members, and staff of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
He stated that improving local government effectiveness is critical to delivering public services efficiently and promoting sustainable development at the grassroots level.
As part of efforts to deepen transparency and enhance planning processes, the Minister also announced plans to issue a directive to all MMDAs to establish permanent Physical Public Data Rooms.
These data rooms, he said, must be located in accessible public spaces and open during working hours to allow citizens to view land use and spatial planning information relevant to their communities.
“This initiative will foster openness and ensure orderly development at the local level,” Mr. Ibrahim explained, adding that public access to planning information is a cornerstone of participatory governance.
