National Service Authority targets 50,000 youth for agri-business – Ruth Seddoh

The Director-General of the National Service Authority, Mrs. Ruth Dela Seddoh, has revealed plans to recruit about 50,000 young Ghanaians into the agri-business sector as part of efforts to empower youth and boost agricultural growth in the country.
Speaking to the media at the Young Agribusiness Professionals (YAPP) Awards Ceremony in Accra, Mrs. Seddoh said the Secretariat expects around 150,000 young people to undertake National Service this year.
She explained that a significant number will be directed into the agricultural sector to contribute meaningfully along the value chain.
She noted that the Authority is also providing practical support to encourage participation, particularly among women.
For instance, service personnel will be able to access boilers at a subsidised cost of ₵70 instead of ₵150, helping them to start poultry and other agri-business ventures.
According to Mrs. Seddoh, the aim is to build an entrepreneurial spirit among the youth, giving them opportunities to succeed and to view agriculture not just as subsistence but as a viable business.
She stressed that engaging young people in agri-business would empower them economically, reduce unemployment, and drive innovation within the agricultural sector.
“When we give them the tools and opportunities, they can transform challenges into successful enterprises,” she said.
Mrs. Seddoh reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to partnering with programs such as YAPP to provide mentorship, training, and recognition for young people venturing into agri-business.
