The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for a group of thugs who disrupted the Ashanti Regional Council of State election in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.
The incident, which occurred during the sorting of ballots, saw the attackers storm the venue, destroying ballot papers and boxes in the process.
Eyewitnesses reported that the well-built men forcefully entered the election centre, creating chaos and halting proceedings.
Security personnel at the scene managed to restore order, but the damage had already been done.
In a statement, the police condemned the act and assured the public that all individuals involved in the violent disruption would be arrested and brought to justice.
Authorities have urged anyone with information on the perpetrators to assist in the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission is assessing the impact of the disturbance and is expected to announce whether a re-run of the election will be necessary. Security has since been tightened at the venue to prevent further incidents.
