We’ll use Innovative methods to re-equip military personnel – Defence Minister nominee
Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister-designate, has assured Ghanaians of his commitment to modernising and re-equipping the country’s military personnel through innovative approaches.
Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, Dr Boamah emphasised the importance of equipping the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to effectively address emerging security challenges.
“We cannot afford to fall behind in an era of evolving security threats. My approach will focus on adopting innovative methods and leveraging technology to ensure that our military personnel are well-equipped and motivated to defend our sovereignty,” he stated.
Dr Boamah explained that his plans would involve fostering strategic partnerships and exploring cost-effective means to acquire modern equipment.
The nominee highlighted the importance of tailoring these efforts to meet the specific needs of the GAF. “We must ensure that the tools and resources provided align with the realities of the terrain and the duties expected of our military.
This will not only enhance their effectiveness but also boost their morale,” he noted.
Dr Boamah also emphasised the need for regular training programmes to keep personnel up to date with the latest military techniques and technologies.
Dr Boamah concluded by urging all stakeholders to support his vision for a modernised defence system, should he be approved as Defence Minister.
“It is my belief that with the right strategies and commitment, we can strengthen the capacity of our Armed Forces to effectively secure our nation and contribute meaningfully to regional peacekeeping efforts,” he said
