GHS Director-General leads mission to strengthen meningitis preparedness in Northern regions
The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, is leading a high-level team on a working visit to meningitis-prone areas in northern Ghana to assess readiness and bolster outbreak response.
The tour spans Bono East, Northern, North East, Upper East, Upper West, and Savannah Regions.
The team’s focus includes evaluating surveillance systems, logistics, laboratory capacity, case management, public health education, and emergency response coordination.
During the visit, Dr. Akoriyea is engaging with Regional Health Management Teams, as well as political and traditional leaders, to reinforce collaboration and ensure rapid response mechanisms are in place.
He also urged residents in these regions to seek prompt medical attention if they experience symptoms of illness, highlighting early care as critical to controlling the spread of meningitis.
The initiative reflects GHS’s commitment to proactive disease prevention and strengthening public health systems across Ghana.
