Ablekuma North: No military deployment-Defence Minister

The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has assured the public that there will be no military deployment during today’s by-election in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
Speaking on the importance of maintaining peace and upholding democratic values, Dr. Boamah emphasised that the Ghana Police Service will take full responsibility for security at all polling stations.
He stressed that this decision was made in the interest of public safety and to avoid a repeat of past electoral violence.
“We must learn from past incidents such as the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence and the tragic killing of eight citizens during the 2020 elections.
These events serve as painful reminders of what must never be allowed to happen again,” he stated.
Dr. Boamah reiterated the government's confidence in the professionalism of the Ghana Police Service, noting that the officers are well-trained in electoral security and capable of managing today's voting process effectively.
“THERE WILL BE NO MILITARY DEPLOYMENT! Let us keep the peace and make our voices heard,” he stressed.
He called on all political actors and voters to remain calm and law-abiding throughout the day, adding that the by-election is a critical opportunity for Ghanaians to participate in shaping the nation’s democratic journey.
Dr. Boamah further noted that today's vote is a chance to support the vision of former President John Dramani Mahama, who is seeking to reset Ghana’s trajectory and open up more opportunities for its citizens.
