Akim Swedru MP holds Mahama accountable for Ablekuma North electoral mess

Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has issued a scathing criticism of President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of failing to uphold his promise to “reset” Ghana’s political climate.
In a Facebook post, the MP expressed his disappointment over what he described as “brutish and thuggery behaviour” by members of the ruling party for the violent activities at the just-ended Ablekuma North re-run.
According to him, the actions witnessed reportedly involving the assault and intimidation of innocent citizens mark a dark chapter in Ghana’s democratic history.
“Mr. President, you promised the Ghanaian people that you were going to reset the country.
A reset cannot be about this brutish and thuggery behaviour of your party folks,” he wrote.
Kennedy Osei Nyarko cautioned that political retribution and impunity must not become the new normal.
He emphasised that the “wrongs of yesterday” cannot justify the same acts today, adding that such behaviour only serves to deepen political polarisation.
“Today is certainly going to be engraved in your name as the saddest day of our democracy,” he stated, directly addressing President Mahama.
Nyarko urged the President to act swiftly to restore order and prevent a recurrence of politically motivated violence, warning that failure to do so would constitute a “grave injustice” to the electorate.
“We cannot continue to govern this country with such impunity from some political thuggish who always take advantage of the system to perpetrate crimes against innocent citizens,” he added.
He concluded with a passionate appeal for national unity and a rejection of retaliatory politics, urging President Mahama to rise to the occasion and protect the integrity of Ghana’s democracy.
