The Office of the Twafohene of Akyem Abuakwa has announced plans to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the passing of Dr. Joseph Kwame Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah with a maiden Inter–Senior High School Quiz and Inter–Tertiary Debate aimed at deepening youth engagement with Ghana’s intellectual and constitutional heritage.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday, the commemorative event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Auditorium of the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education.

The programme forms part of a broader national effort to sustain public engagement with the enduring legacy of Dr. J. B. Danquah, widely regarded as one of the foremost architects of modern Ghanaian political thought and democratic ideals.

The event is being organised under the auspices of Okatakyie Boakye Danquah Ababio, the Twafohene of Akyem Abuakwa.

It will be held under the theme: “Celebrating the Intellectual Legacy of Dr. Joseph Kwame Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah: Inspiring Scholarship, Patriotism, and Constitutional Thought in a New Generation.”

Organisers say the programme seeks to move commemoration beyond ceremonial observance by placing young people at the centre of national reflection.

Through structured academic competition, students will be challenged to interrogate Ghana’s history, constitutional development, governance, and civic values—areas profoundly shaped by Dr. Danquah’s life and work.

The Inter–Senior High School Quiz will test participants’ knowledge in Ghanaian history, governance, literature, as well as the biography and ideas of Dr. Danquah.

Meanwhile, the Inter–Tertiary Debate will engage students in rigorous discourse on a contemporary constitutional question, reflecting Dr. Danquah’s lifelong advocacy for liberty, the rule of law, and democratic governance.

The programme will be chaired by the Okyenhene, Nana Adu Twumwaa Dokua, with His Lordship Barima Yaw Oppong Kodie, Justice of the Court of Appeal and Manwerehene of Akyem Abuakwa, serving as Special Guest of Honour.

Attendance is expected from traditional authorities, clergy, education officials, parliamentarians, academics, students, and representatives of institutions of national significance.

Organisers emphasised that the initiative is national in spirit, educational in purpose, and non-partisan in character. They expressed the hope that it will evolve into an annual platform for intellectual formation and civic consciousness among Ghanaian youth.

Members of the media and the general public have been invited to take note of the event and participate in amplifying the ideals of scholarship, patriotism, and principled leadership exemplified by Dr. J. B. Danquah.

The release was issued by the Office of the Twafohene of Akyem Abuakwa.
