Ghana welcomes over 500 Alpha Kappa Alpha members under Beyond the Return initiative
Ghana has warmly welcomed more than 500 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, who arrived in the country under the government’s Beyond the Return initiative, aimed at strengthening ties with the African diaspora.
The visitors were hosted at a welcome reception on Tuesday evening, marked by a vibrant celebration of reconnection, shared heritage and cultural unity.
The event highlighted Ghana’s ongoing commitment to positioning itself as a home for people of African descent seeking to reconnect with their roots.
Speaking at the reception, the Deputy CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Gilbert Aggrey, described the gathering as more than a ceremonial welcome, emphasising that it symbolised enduring bonds that transcend time and geography.
Cultural displays, music and expressions of solidarity underscored the spirit of homecoming that defines the Beyond the Return experience.
The Beyond the Return framework builds on the success of the Year of Return initiative, promoting sustained engagement, investment and cultural exchange between Ghana and the global African family.
Participants expressed appreciation for the warm reception, describing Ghana not just as a destination, but as a place of belonging and emotional connection — reinforcing the message that home is not merely a place, but a shared feeling of identity and heritage.
