Awutu Senya East MCE advocates for stronger decentralisation and capacity building in local governance

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly in the Central Region, Mr. Seth Sabah Sewornoo-Banini, has underscored that decentralisation is the future of effective governance and a cornerstone for sustainable local development.
Speaking to Class News correspondent Samuel Addo during a two-day capacity-building workshop for Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members in Kasoa, the MCE highlighted the critical role local representatives play in advancing participatory governance and community development.
The workshop, organised by the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly, seeks to enhance the knowledge, leadership skills, and operational capacity of Assembly and Unit Committee Members.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen governance at the grassroots level and improve service delivery to residents.
Mr Sewornoo-Banini emphasised that effective governance begins with well-trained and empowered local leaders who understand their roles and responsibilities.
“Equipping our Assembly and Unit Committee Members with the right knowledge and skills is essential to ensuring responsive leadership and sustainable community development,” he stated.
He added that capacity building remains a vital tool for promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency within local governance structures.
Supporting the MCE’s position, Mr. Felix Amakye, a lecturer at the Institute of Local Government and resource person at the workshop, reaffirmed the importance of empowering local representatives.
“The work for Assembly and Unit Committee members cannot be underestimated.
They are the bridge between the people and government, and they need continuous investment and support to perform effectively,” Mr. Amakye noted.
He further explained that the workshop aims to foster collaboration among local leaders, traditional authorities, and other stakeholders, ensuring that the Awutu Senya East Municipality continues to thrive through inclusive and participatory governance.
