Boakye Agyarko declares bid for NPP National Chairmanship

Former Energy Minister, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) when nominations are opened.
In a statement dated September 30, 2025, Mr. Agyarko said his decision followed extensive consultations with his family, close associates, and grassroots members of the party.
“I have had consultations with members of my family and those who are very close to me, and whose lives would be most affected by the decisions I make.
I have also listened carefully to what the broad masses of our party people, and indeed many outside our party, are asking of me,” he noted.
Mr. Agyarko described his decision as a “call to duty,” stressing that he felt compelled to respond to the demands of the party faithful and well-wishers.
“Having factored in all the considerations, I see it as my bounden duty to respond to this call to duty, and hereby announce that I will contest for the position of National Chairman of my party upon the opening of nominations,” the statement read.
Mr. Agyarko, a long-standing member of the NPP, previously served as Minister of Energy in President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration and has been active in party politics for decades.
His declaration adds momentum to the race for the national chairmanship, a contest expected to be fiercely competitive as the NPP prepares for internal elections ahead of the 2028 general polls.
