Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah addressing the press in Assin North

The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah, has paid a working visit to Assin Tweanka in the Assin North Constituency to inspect the progress of the ongoing bridge construction project in the area.

His visit followed the 68th Independence Day celebration at Assin Breku, which he attended alongside the Member of Parliament for Assin North,  James Gyakye Quayson.

The construction of the Assin Tweanka bridge is a key infrastructure project championed by Gyakye Quayson and President John Dramani Mahama, who both promised to deliver a new bridge to the people of Tweanka and its surrounding communities during the Assin North by-election and the 2024 general election.

For years, residents of Assin Tweanka and over 30 neighbouring communities have struggled with stalled development due to the deteriorating state of the old bridge, which had become a death trap, making road access difficult and hazardous.

After inspecting the project, Mr Eduamoah praised the Assin North MP for his commitment to improving infrastructure in the constituency.

He emphasized the urgent need to complete the bridge before the rainy season, acknowledging that over GH¢30 million had already been invested in the project.

To expedite the construction, the Regional Minister pledged additional support, offering excavators, backhoes, and loaders from the Regional Coordinating Council's District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) to assist in the swift completion of the project.

Mr. James Gyakye Quayson highlighted the pressing need for the bridge, noting that complaints from local chiefs and residents prompted him to take swift action.

Before starting the bridge project, he had to construct a 1.5-kilometer virgin road to provide access to the site.

The MP lamented the hardships faced by students, farmers, traders, and pregnant women, who risked their lives using the dilapidated old bridge.

He also cited the high number of road accidents in the area as a key reason for prioritizing the project.

The Assin Tweanka bridge construction, which began three months ago, is progressing at a rapid pace and is currently 60% complete.
